Tryouts for U/13 Boys and Girls, and U/15 will initially be for the creation of teams for the Western Central Championship League (WCCL). This is a league that exists between regions such as Grand Falls, Gander, Springdale, Deer Lake, Corner Brook, Stephenville etc.. and requires 3/4 travel weekends throughout summer to some of these regions.
The team entries are dependent on the available players in each region. Gander has partnered up with other regions in the past, but last year we ran our own team at U/13 boys, and it was a tremendous success. Now we are aiming to broaden our team entries to U/13 boys and girls, and U15. However, should Gander not have enough players trying out or committing to this team, we will look to combine with Grand Falls (and other regions) to try to create a central team.
The WCCL team would also be a team that we would like to send to invitation tournaments and provincials. This would likely be a 'Rep 1' type team.
Players not selected for the WCCL team in these age groups would be eligible for travel teams to go to invitational tournaments. So if numbers allow, the tryout assessments will also help select this second team. This would be a 'Rep 2' type team.
At U/11, the tryouts are purely for the purpose of selecting travel teams that go to invitational tournaments and provincials. The intention, if numbers allow, is to select 2 teams at this age group. These would be a 'rep 1' and a 'rep 2' team, and these would be created to support different levels of player experiences.
